Fix a mistake after you've lodged a BAS
What happens to a lodged BAS when your books change, how to keep lodged periods safe, and how to correct an error.
Once you record a BAS as lodged, Billbook keeps its figures exactly as you sent them. Its page says "figures as lodged", and it can't be edited.
What if I change a transaction in a lodged period?
Your books change, but the lodged BAS doesn't. Billbook won't move the difference into your next statement for you, so the ATO and your books can drift apart.
When you approve an invoice, bill or credit, post a journal, or reconcile a bank line, dated in a lodged period, Billbook still saves it and shows a warning naming the period. That's your cue to sort out the correction below.
Stop it happening
Set a lock date up to the end of each period once it's lodged. Then nobody on your team can add or change anything dated in it.
How do I correct a mistake?
- Fix the transaction in your books, so your reports are right.
- Ask your accountant how the ATO wants it corrected. Depending on the error, it's either revised with the ATO or included on a later BAS.
- To include it on a later BAS, open that statement in AccountingBooksGST & BAS, choose Adjust figures, change the amounts and choose Save figures.
Revising a lodged BAS is done through the ATO's online services or your tax agent. Lodging from Billbook Coming soon needs ATO approval.
Adjust figures changes only the statement, not your books. Keep a note of why you changed it.
Can I undo "Record as lodged"?
No. If you recorded the wrong receipt or date, ask your accountant or contact Billbook support.
