Lodge your TPAR
Report what you paid contractors in the year, made from the bills you paid, as the ATO's file to upload.
- Mark contractors
- Pay their bills
- Download the file
- Upload to the ATO
- Record
The taxable payments annual report (TPAR) tells the ATO what you paid contractors in the financial year. It's due by 28 August.
Do I need to lodge one?
You do if you pay contractors and your business is in building and construction, cleaning, courier or road freight, IT, or security, investigation or surveillance. If you do a mix of work, it applies when those services make up a tenth or more of your GST turnover. The ATO's page on the TPAR has the full rules. If your accountant lodges it for you, you don't need to.
How does Billbook work it out?
- On each contractor's contact, tick They're a contractor I report on the TPAR, and add their ABN and address.
- Pay their bills in Billbook as usual.
- Open AccountingBooksTPAR and pick the Financial year.
Each contractor shows with what you paid against their bills in the year, GST included. Change a bill or a contact and the TPAR follows.
How do I lodge it?
- Fix anything under Before the file can be made. The ATO's file needs your business's ABN, phone and address, and each contractor's address.
- Choose Download TPAR file.
- Choose Open Online services for business and upload the file with the ATO's file transfer.
- Back in Billbook, enter the ATO receipt number and choose Record as lodged.
Recording it keeps the figures as lodged, even if a bill changes later.
A contractor without an ABN?
You should have withheld tax from their payments. Billbook doesn't withhold it for you, so check with your accountant.
What if I made a mistake?
Choose Reopen, fix the bills or contacts, and send the ATO an amended report.
