Your ATO connection

Connect Billbook to the ATO once for every report it sends, and change your confirmed mobile.

Billbook sends some reports to the ATO for you, such as your pay reports (Single Touch Payroll). Before the first one, you connect Billbook to the ATO. You do it once, and it covers every report Billbook sends for your business.

How do I connect?

Open SettingsATO connection, or start from your first report. There are two steps:

  1. Confirm your mobile. Enter it, choose Text me a code, then type the 6-digit code. The ATO asks software providers to hold a confirmed contact number for every business that sends it reports.
  2. Tell the ATO that Billbook is your software. The page shows your Software ID and Billbook's details. Give them to the ATO in Online services for business or by phone, then choose I’ve told the ATO.

Someone from the business needs to confirm the mobile, not your accountant. It must be an Australian mobile, as the code comes by text.

Is the mobile shown to anyone?

No. It's kept for the ATO's checks only and isn't printed on your invoices or quotes. The phone number customers see is set in SettingsBrand & invoices.

How do I change the mobile?

Open SettingsATO connection, choose Change beside the mobile, and confirm the new number with a texted code. The old number is replaced straight away, and the change is recorded in your business's activity.

What's the ABN check?

Before a report, Billbook checks your ABN with the Australian Business Register, at least every 30 days. Only a business with an active ABN can report to the ATO. The page shows the last result.
