Build your own practice report

Pick a dataset, group it by up to two things and choose what to measure, to answer your own questions about the firm.

  1. Dataset
  2. Year
  3. Group by
  4. Measures
  5. Run report

The report builder answers questions the standard reports don't, like "hours per client per month" or "obligations by type and status". It only shows clients you're allowed to see.

How do I build a report?

  1. Open ReportsReport builder.
  2. Pick a Dataset: Time entries, Invoices or Obligations.
  3. Pick a Financial year, or All years. Obligations don't have this; group them by financial year instead.
  4. Under Group by, choose one or two groupings, like Client and Month.
  5. Under Measures, choose what to add up. You need at least one.
  6. Choose Run report.

Changing the dataset clears your groupings and measures. Choose a column heading in the results to sort by it.

You need access to practice reports to use the builder. Results only include clients you're allowed to see.

What can I group and measure?

Time entries groups by client, job type, billable or month, and measures Hours, Billable value and Entries. Grouping by job type puts time that isn't on a job under a dash. Pick a job when you log time so it counts under the job's type.

Invoices groups by client, job type, Billed for or month, and measures Invoiced (ex GST), Hours billed and the number of invoices. Drafts count here, so totals can be higher than in client recovery.

Obligations groups by type, status, Responsibility, financial year or client, and counts them.

Why don't I see every row?

Long reports show the first rows only, with a note saying so. Add a grouping or pick a year to narrow it down.

The report's address keeps your choices. Bookmark it to run the same report again later. There's no export or saved reports list yet.
