Your chart of accounts
See the accounts your money is sorted into, add or rename one, set its default GST and archive the ones you don't use.
Your chart of accounts is the list of buckets every transaction is sorted into, like Sales, Rent or Motor vehicle expenses. Each account's type decides where it shows on your reports.
How do I add an account?
- Open AccountingBooksChart of accounts.
- Choose Add account.
- Pick the Type. Billbook suggests the next free Code.
- Type a Name and choose the default GST.
- Choose Add account again to save it.
Bank and credit card accounts
Add those on the Bank screen, not here. They show in the chart with a Bank badge.
How do I change or archive an account?
- Select the account, or use its Edit option in the row menu.
- Change what you need and choose Save changes.
- To hide one, choose Archive from the row menu.
An archived account stops showing in pickers but keeps its past transactions. Find it on the Archived tab and choose Restore to bring it back.
What can't change
System accounts (marked System) can be renamed but not retyped or archived. An account with transactions can only move to a type in the same group, and an asset, liability or equity account with a balance can't be archived until you move the balance.
What does the All-time total column show?
Everything ever posted to the account, not this year's figure. Use the profit and loss report for a year.
Can I bring my chart across from other software?
Yes. From the menu next to Add account, choose Import a chart of accounts and upload a file from Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks or a spreadsheet. Download as CSV in the same menu exports yours.
