Your books are kept in your own currency, but invoices, bills and bank accounts can be in another. Billbook converts each one at the exchange rate for its date.
How do I invoice or bill in another currency?
- On the invoice or bill, choose Another currency?.
- Pick the Currency.
- Leave the rate blank to use your saved rate for the date, or type the one you got.
For a bank account in another currency, set its Currency when you add it on the Bank screen.
Where do exchange rates come from?
- Open AccountingAdvancedCurrencies.
- Choose Fetch today's rates if it's there, or Add a rate to type one.
- For a typed rate, pick the Currency and Date, enter the rate and choose Save rate.
Use a date range instead saves the same rate for every day in a range.
Documents and payments use the latest rate on or before their date. Anything already posted keeps the rate it used.
What is revaluation?
Rates move after you invoice. Revaluation restates your foreign bank balances and unpaid foreign invoices and bills at a date's rate.
- Under Revaluation, pick the As at date.
- Check the preview, then choose Post revaluation.
The gain or loss is posted that day and reversed the next. Running it again for the same date replaces it.
How do I see what exchange rates did?
Choose Gains and losses report. It splits realised gains and losses (on payments) from unrealised ones (still open).
