Add and manage bank accounts
Add your bank accounts, credit cards and PayPal, change their details, and close the ones you no longer use.
Each account where business money moves gets its own bank account in Billbook: your everyday account, savings, credit cards and PayPal. Each one appears in your chart of accounts and has its own statements to reconcile.
How do I add an account?
- Open Bank and choose Add bank account.
- Enter the Account name, what you call it.
- Pick the Type: Bank account, Credit card, PayPal or Other.
- Add the BSB, Account number and Account holder.
- Choose Add account.
Adding and closing accounts needs permission to manage settings. Ask the business owner if you don't see the button.
Can I keep an account in another currency?
Yes. Choose its Currency when you add it. You can only change the currency while the account has no transactions.
How do I change an account's details?
Open the account, choose More for this account, then Edit details.
What are payment clearing accounts?
When you connect an app like Shopify or Square, Billbook adds a clearing account for the money it holds before paying you out. It should come back to about zero after each payout. Manage it from the app's settings.
How do I close an account?
- Open the account and choose More for this account.
- Choose Close account, then confirm.
If nothing was ever recorded on it, it's deleted. Otherwise it's archived, which needs a zero balance and nothing left to reconcile. Its history and reports stay.
Closed one by mistake?
Find it under Closed accounts on the Bank page and choose Reopen.
