Transfers between accounts, and splitting a line

Record money moving between your own accounts, and code one bank line to several accounts.

Moving money from your everyday account to savings, or paying off the credit card, isn't income or spending. Record it as a transfer so both accounts stay right.

How do I reconcile a transfer?

  1. On the account's Reconcile tab, find the line.
  2. If Billbook spots the same amount in your other account, choose Record as transfer on that line. Otherwise, under More, choose Record as a transfer.
  3. Check the other account and choose OK and reconcile.

When you reconcile the other account, its line matches the transfer that's already in your books.

Paying off a credit card?

Add the card as its own account, and every repayment is a transfer from your bank account to the card.

How do I record a transfer that isn't on a statement yet?

  1. Open either account and choose New, then Transfer money.
  2. Pick the Direction, the other account, the Date and the amount.
  3. Choose Transfer.

How do I split one bank line across accounts?

For a payment that covers two things, like stock and freight on one card charge:

  1. Under More on the line, choose Split across accounts.
  2. Code the first part, then Split across another line for the next.
  3. When the total matches the bank line, choose OK and reconcile.

Each part of a split has its own account and GST, so your BAS gets the right figures for each.

Can I record spending without a bank statement?

Yes. Open the account and choose New, then Spend money or Receive money. When the statement line arrives, it matches what you recorded.
