Who does what

Choose whether you or your adviser handles each job, like BAS, payroll and the tax return, and who can lodge it.

Who does what sets who handles each job for your business. Only the person you pick can lodge that job with the ATO, so two people never lodge the same thing.

How do I choose who does each job?

  1. Open SettingsAccountant & bookkeeper.
  2. Under Who does what, find the job, for example Preparing and lodging activity statements.
  3. Pick an adviser, or We do it ourselves.

Only the business owner or an admin can change this. Your advisers can't.

Which jobs can I lodge myself?

Your activity statements (BAS), payroll reporting (STP) and the taxable payments annual report. The business's tax return has to be lodged by a registered tax agent.

Lodging from Billbook

Lodging straight from Billbook Coming soon is on the way. For now, lodge through the ATO or your accountant's software.

Can a bookkeeper lodge my BAS?

Yes, if they're a registered BAS agent and you've picked them for it. BAS agents can't lodge income tax returns. That needs a registered tax agent.

Who can see and change what in my books?

Advisers can do all the books work, including payroll. You keep control of who advises you, who does what, your plan and ownership. People in your own team get a role when you invite them in SettingsPeople, such as Tax & documents for someone who only needs returns and documents from your accountant.
