Tax estimate and results letter
Download a covering letter for your client with their taxable income, tax and estimated refund or amount payable.
The estimate letter is a one-page PDF for your client that explains the result of their return in plain terms, on your letterhead.
How do I get the letter?
- Open the client's TaxIncome tax and pick the year.
- Open the ⋯ menu and choose Estimate letter. It needs the tax permission, which staff have by default.
- The PDF opens in a new tab, ready to save, print or attach.
What's in it?
- Your firm's name, ABN and logo at the top, and your firm's name in the sign-off.
- The client's Taxable income, with the offsets and levies that apply.
- Net tax, then the credits, like tax already withheld.
- The refund due to them, or the amount payable.
- A line on what happens next: a refund goes to their nominated bank account once the return is assessed, and an amount payable is due by the date on their notice of assessment.
Is it an estimate or the final result?
Before the return is lodged, the letter says Estimated outcome and that the figures may change once the ATO assesses it. Once it's recorded as lodged or assessed, it becomes a Lodged return summary with the figures as lodged, and says the notice of assessment is the final word.
If the year's rates are still provisional in the rule book, the letter says the figures are estimates pending confirmation of the rates, even after lodging.
Send the estimate with the return for signing, so your client knows what they're signing for. The letter is a download, so attach it to your email or upload it to the client's documents.
Can I change how it looks?
The wording is fixed. It uses your Firm logo and details from Firm settingsFirm profile. Preview a sample as Tax estimate letter in Firm settingsTemplates.
Who can download it?
Anyone with the tax permission. Staff have it by default.
