Send a return to your client to sign

Email the return to the right people to review and sign, then check when it's signed.

  1. Return ready
  2. Send for signature
  3. Client signs
  4. Signed

When the return is ready, send it to your client to review and sign. Billbook makes the PDF and emails each signer a link.

How do I send it?

  1. Open the client's TaxIncome tax and pick the year.
  2. Check the Distribution statement and the Pre-lodgement review first.
  3. Choose Send for signature.
  4. Under Who signs, tick each person who needs to sign.
  5. Choose Send.

The return moves to Ready for client.

Billbook ticks the main contact for you and names the usual signers above the list, like the directors of a company, the trustees of a trust or the partners of a partnership. Tick each of them who needs to sign.

Only contacts with an email address and access to this client show up. If nobody does, add one on the client's ClientContacts first.

What happens when I send it?

  • Billbook makes the return PDF and saves it to the client's WorkDocuments, shared with the client.
  • Each signer gets an email with a link. People who don't use the client app get a one-off signing link.
  • The request shows on the client's WorkSignatures.

What does my client see?

The signing page shows the return's headline figures: taxable income, net tax and the estimated refund or amount payable, plus who gets what for a trust or partnership. If the year's rates aren't confirmed yet, it says the figures are estimates. They can sign in the client app too.

How do I know it's signed?

It's signed once everyone you ticked has signed, and the status changes to Signed. If it hasn't updated, choose Check signing status.

Once signed, the working is saved as it was when they signed. Then lodge it and record it as lodged.

Can I change a return after sending it?

Not while it's with the client. From the moment you send it, the return is locked so the figures match the PDF they sign. To change it:

  1. Open the ⋯ menu and choose Recall to make changes.
  2. Choose Recall.
  3. Make your changes, then choose Send for signature again.

Recalling cancels the signing request, so the client can't sign the old version. A return that's already signed can be recalled too. Its signature no longer counts, so it needs signing again.

Who can send a return?

Anyone with the tax permission and the permission to send documents for signing. Staff have both by default. An amended return is sent the same way.

What's in the return PDF?

Open the ⋯ menu and choose Download PDF at any time for a copy. It shows the client's name, the form and year, residency for a person and the TFN's last three digits. Then every label with a value, each schedule with its net, the distribution statement for a trust or partnership, and the tax worked out down to the refund or amount payable.
