TPAR (taxable payments)
Build a client's taxable payments annual report from their bills or by hand, check for missing ABNs and record it as lodged.
- Fill from bills
- Add payees
- Check ABNs
- Record as lodged
The TPAR (taxable payments annual report) tells the ATO how much a business paid each contractor in the year. It's needed for businesses in industries like building and construction, cleaning, couriers, road freight, IT and security.
How do I fill it in from the client's books?
- Open the client and go to TaxTPAR.
- Pick the Financial year.
- Choose Fill from bills.
Billbook adds each supplier the client marked as a TPAR contractor in their books. For each one it totals the payments made in the year against their bills, the GST share of those payments and their billing address. Foreign currency bills are converted to Australian dollars. Withheld starts at nil, so check it.
Filling from bills replaces the year's payee list. Do it before you add anyone by hand.
How do I add a payee by hand?
- Choose Add payee.
- Enter the Contractor name, ABN and Address.
- Enter the Gross paid for the year, the GST included, and anything Withheld.
- Choose Add payee.
How do I change or remove a payee?
Choose the pencil on the row, fix the details, then choose Save. It takes the same checks as adding one. To remove a payee, choose the bin, then Delete. Once it's recorded as lodged, choose Reopen first.
What do I check?
The tiles show the Payees, Total gross paid, GST included and Tax withheld. Billbook flags any payee without a valid ABN, so you can check whether no-ABN withholding applied. An ABN that fails the ATO's check shows as invalid in red, and a missing one shows as none.
How do I lodge it?
- Lodge it with the ATO in Online services for agents.
- Choose Record as lodged.
- Tick the declaration boxes and confirm.
Billbook doesn't send TPARs to the ATO itself, or make a file to upload. Recording it as lodged freezes the totals and adds it to the client's lodgement history. Need to change it? Choose Reopen.
Record as lodged needs the lodging permission and your firm set as the one that lodges TPAR for this client. If it can't, the reason shows in its place.
