Work in a client's books
Connect to a business that keeps its books in Billbook, then reconcile, review and report on them from the client's page.
- They invite you
- You accept
- Same books
You and the business work on the same books, from the client's page in Billbook Practice. Nothing to export, import or sync.
The books are theirs
The business decides who works on them, and can remove your practice at any time.
How do I connect to a business’s books?
- The owner opens SettingsAccountant & bookkeeper and chooses Invite an adviser.
- You open ClientsAcross clientsConnected books. The invitation says whether they want you as their accountant or bookkeeper.
- Choose File under client…, then Accept. Not a client yet? Add the client first.
Not for you? Choose Decline and confirm.
Accepting needs access to clients' books, which partners and admins have. A client that's already linked to other books can't take a second set.
Where do I work in the books?
Open the client. The Books sections down the side are the business's books:
- BooksBank to reconcile and manage bank rules
- BooksLedger for accounts, journals and balances
- BooksReports for the general ledger, journal listing and bank reconciliation
- BooksStatements for profit and loss and the balance sheet (for firms that do tax work)
- BooksSales & purchases for what's unpaid or overdue, read only
- BooksBooks & advisers for who holds and advises on the books
You can do everything in the books. Four things stay with the owner: who advises them, who does what, their subscription and who owns the books.
Can my firm keep books for a client?
Yes. In BooksBooks & advisers, choose Create books. If they want them later, Hand over to the client; your firm stays on as their accountant.
What happens when we stop working together?
Stop advising ends access straight away. You keep a read-only trial balance for each year, plus your client record, returns and workpapers.
