Ask clients for documents and details
Request a document, check what the client uploads, then accept it or send it back with a reason.

- Check it
- Accept
A request asks a client for something you need, like bank statements or a payment summary. They get one email, and the request sits on their to-do list in the client app until it's done.
How do I ask for a document?
- Open the client's WorkRequests.
- Choose Request a document.
- Under What do you need?, name the document.
- Add Details (optional) and a Due date (optional).
- Pick a Job (optional) so it shows on that job.
- Choose Send request.
One contact gets the email: the main contact first, or else whoever gets the client's emails. If they don't use the client app, the email has a one-off upload link.
If the client has no contact with an email, the request is saved but no email goes out. The message after sending says so.
What do the statuses mean?
Awaiting client means nothing's been uploaded yet. To review means the client has uploaded something for you to check. Accepted means you're done. Cancelled means you withdrew it.
How do I check what they sent?
- Choose View upload to open the file. It opens once the virus check is done.
- If it's right, choose Accept.
- If not, choose Send back, say What’s wrong with it? and send it.
The client sees your reason on their to-do and gets one email asking for another copy. The file they sent stays in the client's documents.
Got it by email or in person? Use the tick to mark it as received, so the client isn't asked for it again.
Does Billbook chase the client?
No. There are no automatic reminders. The request stays on the client's to-do until it's done, and you can see it on the job.
Can I cancel a request?
Yes, while it's awaiting the client or to review. Choose the cross and confirm Cancel request. It's removed from the client app.
