Getting started

Find your way around Billbook Practice

Learn the home page, the top menus, search with ⌘K and how a client's page is laid out.

  1. Home
  2. Menus
  3. Search
  4. Client page

Billbook Practice has one bar across the top: your menus on the left, search in the middle and your account on the right. Everything else opens from there.

What's on the home page?

Home shows where the practice stands today: Due this week, Unbilled work (WIP), Owed to the firm and Billed this month. Below that are Work due by week, Needs attention, My work and Recent client activity. Choose Open the board to see every job.

Still setting up? Finish setting up lists the steps you skipped.

What's in the top menus?

  • Work: the WorkBoard, backlog, follow-ups, client questions and the calendar.
  • Clients: ClientsAll clients, contacts, leads, and views across every client.
  • Billing: Time & billing, Your firm’s books and the Partner program.
  • Compliance: AML/CTF, company secretarial, TPB records and the Rule book.
  • Reports: Practice reports and the Report builder.

You only see menus and pages your role allows.

Press ⌘K on a Mac or Ctrl K on Windows, or / when you're not typing. Search finds clients, contacts, jobs and pages, and can start a new client or invite a teammate.

Where are settings and my account?

Choose your name at the top right. That menu has:

  • Questions from clients, with a count of new ones.
  • Your firms, to switch practice or open the sample practice.
  • Firm settings and Your account.
  • Light or Dark mode, which follows you to other devices.
  • Help & support and Sign out.

How is a client's page laid out?

The client's name and buttons stay pinned at the top, with their sections listed down the left. New adds a note, request, upload, signature or time entry. Back to clients takes you to the list.

On a client's page, press G and then a letter to jump to a section, for example G then L for the ledger.
