Import invoices or contacts from a file
Bring invoices, customers, suppliers and products across from another system with a CSV file.
- Export CSV
- Import
- Check drafts
- Approve
Moving from another system? Export a CSV (a spreadsheet file) from there and bring it in here. Bring contacts across first, then invoices.
How do I import contacts?
- Open Contacts and choose Import or export contacts.
- Choose Import contacts.
- Drop in your CSV and choose Import.
Only a contact name column is required. A row with a name you already have updates that contact instead of adding a second one.
How do I import invoices?
- Open SalesInvoices and choose Import.
- Drop in a CSV in Xero's layout, one row per invoice line.
- Under Amounts in the file are, say whether prices include tax.
- Choose Import invoices.
- Choose Review drafts, check them and approve.
Invoices come in as drafts, and customers that aren't in Billbook yet are added for you. Rows with the same invoice number become one invoice.
Does importing count towards my plan?
Yes. Imported invoices count towards the 10 a month on the Free plan. If a file has more than you have left, nothing is imported, so you never end up with half a year. The Pro plan has no limit.
Can I import products too?
Yes. Open SalesProducts & services, choose Import or export products, then Import products & services.
Every list has an export too, so you can take a CSV back out at any time.
