Track a project's income and costs

Log time, tag bills and invoices to a job, and see whether it's making money.

  1. Project
  2. Log time
  3. Tag lines
  4. Profit

A project is a job for a customer. Time, bills and invoices come together in one place, so you can see what each job makes.

How do I start a project?

  1. Open SalesProjects and choose New project.
  2. Give it a Name and choose the Customer.
  3. Add an Estimate (ex GST) to compare against, and a Deadline if there is one.
  4. Choose Create project.

How do I log time?

  1. Open the project and choose Log time.
  2. Fill in the Date, Hours, Who and What was done.
  3. Set the charge rate (what the customer pays) and the cost rate (what the time costs you).
  4. Tick Billable to the customer if you'll invoice it, then Save.

How do I invoice the time?

Choose Invoice time, pick the entries, the Income account and the Invoice date, then Create draft invoice. You get one line per entry to check before you approve it.

The project needs a customer before you can invoice its time.

How do bills and invoices get on a project?

When you add a bill or invoice, pick the project on the lines that belong to it. They show under Bills and invoices on the project.

Where do I see the profit?

At the top of the project: Estimate, Invoiced, Costs, Profit and Unbilled time. When the job's done, choose Close project.
